Scones

Ingredients

  • 2c flour
  • 3T sugar
  • 3t baking powder
  • 1/2t baking soda
  • 1/4t salt
  • 6T cold unsalted butter
  • 2/3c buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1T water
  • 1T sugar (for the top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F
  2. Blend dry ingredients
  3. Cut butter into small pieces. Knead into dry mix until it’s mealy
  4. Add buttermilk. Mix until just combined. Add any fruit/nuts late in this step.
  5. Shape into disk. Cut into wedges. Arrange wedges on baking pan.
  6. Beat egg with water, then brush onto scones. Sprinkle sugar overtop.
  7. Bake 10-12min.
