Molasses Oat Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 c rolled oats
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 8-10 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 1/2 tsp yeast
  • 3 1/4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Mix together the oats, butter, and 1 1/2 c hot water. Let sit 30 min.
  2. Add molasses, salt, yeast (dissolved in 1/4c of the water) and the remaining water to the oat mixture. Mix well.
  3. Add the flour. Knead 5 min. Let rest 30min.
  4. Shape into two loaves. Let rise.
  5. Bake at 400 for 5 mins.
  6. Reduce heat to 350 and bake for 40-45 mins.
  7. Brush with butter.
