Molasses Oat Bread
Ingredients
- 1 c rolled oats
- 1/2 stick butter
- 3/4 cup molasses
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 8-10 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 1/2 tsp yeast
- 3 1/4 cups water
Instructions
- Mix together the oats, butter, and 1 1/2 c hot water. Let sit 30 min.
- Add molasses, salt, yeast (dissolved in 1/4c of the water) and the remaining water to the oat mixture. Mix well.
- Add the flour. Knead 5 min. Let rest 30min.
- Shape into two loaves. Let rise.
- Bake at 400 for 5 mins.
- Reduce heat to 350 and bake for 40-45 mins.
- Brush with butter.

- original recipe called for 8-9c flour, but we needed 10cups before it came together without being a completely sticky mess
