Aunt Frances’s Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1c butter
  • 1c powdered sugar
  • 1c sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1tsp baking soda
  • 1c oil
  • 1tsp vanilla
  • 4 1/4c flour
  • 1tsp cream of tartar
  • 1tsp salt
  • Sugar for tops

Instructions

  1. Cream butter with sugar and powdered sugar
  2. Add eggs, oil, and vanilla. Mix well
  3. Mix together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Add to butter mixture. Mix thoroughly
  4. Make into balls the size of walnuts
  5. Moisten the bottom of a glass, then dip in sugar. Press down each ball of dough with freshly sugared glass (no need to moisten glass each time)
  6. Bake at 350° for 8 to 10 minutes

Notes

  • Amanda made a half batch, using only sugar (instead of powdered). They spread a little more than expected, so maybe a half cup more sugar if done that way again (full cup for a whole batch)
